The Solentaname Islands in Southern Lake Nicaragua and the Rio San Juan offer exceptional fishing for Tarpon, Big Snook, Rainbow Bass and many other delicious fish. There is virtually no fishing pressure in Nicaragua due to the general fear people have of their past political climate. Those days are long gone. Each of my fishing trips there were nothing but great. The living conditions in Southern Nicaragua are generally poor by our standards. All the people I met were honest, friendly, helpful and happy. The food was always good and the days were filled with world class fishing opportunities. I especially enjoyed the delicious dinners of fresh fish I caught daily. Surprisingly, there were no biting bugs. I travel with bug spray and a full body net and never pulled any of it out on any of the trips yet. I would always recommend taking bug spray, just in case. Other things to take are a good hat, sun glasses, sunscreen, thin fishing pants, long sleeve shirts and a light rain suit. If you are a serious fisherman considering exploring a great fishing opportunity in the rivers and lake in Southern Nicaragua then I highly recommend a minimum 1 week stay. All the hotel and lodges are very basic, but clean. I also highly recommend booking your trip with the good guys at San Carlos Sports Fishing. They know the entire area very well along with where, when and how to get on the big fish. They'll custom tailor your fishing trip to fit your fishing preferences. They are Really Good Guys that know where and how to get on big fish. They'll take good care of you. Photo Albums - June 2002 - Feb 2003 - May 2004
